Interpretation

The Tong Ren (Fellowship with Men) Hexagram consists of the upper trigram Qian (Heaven) and the lower trigram Li (Fire). Qian represents the sky, while Li represents fire. The image of this hexagram is fire rising toward the sky, coexisting with it.

In this hexagram, Qian represents the ruler, and Li represents the ministers and the people. Since the ruler is above, and the ministers and people are below, this signifies a ruler gathering people together. Tong Ren means bringing together many people.

In the hexagram statement, "Tong" (同) means "to unite" or "to gather," and "Ren" (人) means "people." Tong Ren therefore means "gathering many people together."

The term "Ya" (野) refers to the outskirts. The area outside a town is called "Jiao" (郊), while the area beyond the outskirts is called "Ya" (野). When an enemy invades, the king gathers many people in the open fields, and since everyone follows his command, everything will proceed smoothly. Engaging in a decisive battle will be beneficial, as the war will ultimately end in victory. Therefore, a noble person’s divination will be favorable.

If a person casts divination and receives this hexagram, they should reflect on the hexagram’s imagery and meaning. Now is not the time to act alone. One must gather like-minded individuals, cooperate, and push forward together. Since fire blazes upward into the sky, and heaven and fire resonate with each other, gathering good partners and working selflessly in harmony will lead to prosperity and definite success.

In the face of crisis, one must confront challenges head-on and push forward boldly. The matter inquired about in this divination will be favorable.
