Interpretation
The Lin (Approach) Hexagram consists of the upper trigram Kun (Earth) and the lower trigram Tui (Lake). Kun represents the earth, while Tui represents a lake. The image of this hexagram is earth above a lake.
Since the earth is high and the lake is low, it signifies an approach from above to below.
"Lin" means to approach or oversee.
In the hexagram statement:
"Yuan" means great, representing abundance.
"Heng" means smooth, indicating success and prosperity.
"Li" means beneficial, signifying advantages.
"Zheng" means divination, referring to seeking guidance through an oracle.
If a ruler approaches the people with kindness and acceptance, great prosperity will follow, and any matter asked in divination will be favorable.
Yang energy arises in the first month, flourishes in the sixth month, and starts to decline by the eighth month.
As autumn sets in, plants wither, and insects perish—how can this not be ominous?
If one governs the people without cultivating virtue, decline and misfortune will inevitably follow.
If one receives this hexagram in divination, it signifies that by approaching subordinates with tolerance and listening to their voices, great success will be achieved, and all endeavors will be favorable.
Since earth is above the lake, it signifies that the earth is embracing and nurturing the lake.
Currently, yang energy is strong, and fortune is at its peak. However, soon, yang energy will decline, bringing inevitable change.
Thus, one must adapt to changes in time and circumstances.
As seasons change, so must one’s mindset.
If one fails to recognize the declining yang energy and instead acts recklessly or carelessly, they will fall into misfortune.
When faced with danger, one must make bold decisions and act wisely to navigate through challenges.
